Investigations & Compliance

Compliance obligations and government investigations can bring significant consequences to businesses and individuals, and often require experienced strategy and decision-making. WSC offers extensive compliance and investigation experience aiding clients through every step: assessing compliance programs and counseling on compliance issues, advising on investigations, and implementing internal safeguards to mitigate risk and avoid future investigations.

We represent companies contemplating or conducting internal investigations and advise individuals and companies faced with subpoenas, charges, or investigations brought by government agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Compliance

Knowing what triggers a government investigation, and having successfully navigated many global investigations, WSC is trusted by its clients to handle a wide array of compliance issues. Our attorneys assess, develop, and implement compliance programs and provide strategic guidance to clients to mitigate risk.

We also advise clients on how to navigate government requests, including responding to subpoenas and search warrants.

Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and other Investigations

Our seasoned attorneys represent global companies and individuals in FCPA investigations and other government and internal corporate inquiries. Our representations have included investigations into conduct in China, Russia, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Egypt, Puerto Rico, and the United States. We have extensive experience conducting witness interviews in Spanish and navigating cultural nuances throughout Asia and Latin America. We regularly conduct meetings with the DOJ, the SEC, and other agencies to resolve complex, high-stakes matters, mitigating clients’ exposure.

In one significant FCPA matter, WSC served as co-counsel representing Cisco Systems, Inc. in an investigation conducted by the SEC and DOJ. Both the SEC and DOJ decided not to bring enforcement actions when their investigations were completed – a testament to WSC’s strength in this area.
